Hospital Value-Based Purchasing
Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) is part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’) effort to link Medicare’s payment system to a value-based system to improve healthcare quality.
The program attaches value-based purchasing to the payment system that accounts for the largest share of Medicare spending, affecting payment for inpatient stays in over 3,500 hospitals across the country. Participating hospitals are paid for inpatient acute care services based on the quality of care, not just quantity of the services they provide.
Quality metrics include our patients' perception of the care we provide them. How patients rate us on certain survey questions is posted publicly on Medicare's hospital compare website. Below is an example of the type of information being posted about how our patients rate us. The skills we are learning in Patients VOICE are designed to help our patients have the best experience and highest quality care possible, and are proven to improve their perceptions of care, as compared to national benchmarks.
